The origin of the siamese and the oriental

The oriental is at the origin of the breed. The siamese is an oriental with a colorpoint dress.

One finds the origins of the siamese at the library of Bangkok where is preserved an ancient document "Poems of the cat", found among the vestiges of Ayuthia (ancient capital of Siam), and containing illustrations due to the painters of the court, representing cats with the dress colorpoint.

The first siameses arrived to Europe in 1871 and were presented at the feline exposition of London where they were not appreciated at all of the public.

In 1884, an English consul general offered to his sister a couple of siameses. They had success when they were exposed thus inaugurating the rise of the race. This one was recognized under the name of siamese and it is in the Twenties that was born the first club intended to ensure the diffusion and the safeguard of it.

The association decided that the siameses were formally to have the blue eyes and discouraged the breeding of subjects with green eyes. The oriental has thus the barred road and this race then called
foreign had to wait many years before being recognized and being appreciated.
